NEW DELHI, June 23 (ANI) — External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar paid an official visit to Mongolia from June 22–23, during which India and Mongolia reviewed cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including trade, defence, critical minerals, and capacity building.
According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs, discussions covered development partnership, education, culture, supply chains, mining, air connectivity, and people-to-people ties, along with exchanges on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Jaishankar held bilateral talks with Mongolian Foreign Minister B. Battsetseg and Cabinet Secretariat Chief B. Enkhbayar. He also called on President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and Speaker of Parliament S. Byambatsogt.
He additionally met Education Minister L. Enkh-Amgalan during his visit.
The MEA said the discussions reviewed progress in bilateral relations since the Mongolian President’s State Visit to India in October 2025 and explored new avenues to strengthen the India–Mongolia Strategic Partnership.
During the visit, Jaishankar also inspected the India-assisted oil refinery project in Altanshiree, Dornogovi province, along with Mongolian ministers, and was briefed on its progress.
He visited the Gandan Monastery in Ulaanbaatar, underscoring its significance as a symbol of spiritual and cultural ties between the two countries.
In a post on X, Jaishankar said he discussed bilateral cooperation with Mongolian officials, including new opportunities in mining, energy, technology, and human resources.
He also highlighted India’s support for initiatives linked to cultural heritage, including the digitisation of Buddhist manuscripts under a joint partnership project involving one million texts.
Jaishankar’s visit is part of a broader four-day tour covering Mongolia and the Republic of Korea.
