New Delhi [India], June 17 (ANI): As many as 12 flights were diverted from Delhi between 3 PM and 4 PM on Tuesday due to heavy rain and gusty winds, according to airport sources. “Due to adverse weather conditions in Delhi, 12 flights were diverted between 3 PM and 4 PM,” official sources confirmed.
The sudden change in weather brought much-needed respite from the scorching temperatures in the national capital and its surrounding areas, as cloudy skies and showers swept through the region Tuesday afternoon.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather alert stating that light to moderate rainfall is expected in many areas, with heavy rainfall (7–11 cm) likely at isolated places in Bihar, East Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Madhya Pradesh, North Interior Karnataka, Punjab, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, and Uttarakhand.
According to the IMD, the Southwest Monsoon has further advanced over several regions, including parts of North Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and parts of Bihar. Conditions are favorable for further advancement of the monsoon into the remaining parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and East Uttar Pradesh over the next two days.
The department also noted that a low-pressure area over Southwest Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal persists and is expected to move slowly west-northwestwards, becoming more marked over the region within 24 hours. Another low-pressure system over the Gujarat region is also expected to shift northwards during the same timeframe. (ANI)
