“Honoring the timeless ideals of Bapu, UNGA President Ms. Annalena Baerbock commenced her visit to India by paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat today,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a post on X.
Baerbock arrived in New Delhi on Monday at the invitation of Jaishankar. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the visit underscores India’s continued engagement with the United Nations.
According to the MEA, Baerbock’s itinerary includes an interactive session with representatives from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), focusing on governance and regulation of artificial intelligence.
She is also scheduled to meet the UN team in India, led by Resident Coordinator Stefan Priesner.
The visit marks the second major UN engagement in India this year, following UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ participation in the AI Impact Summit in February.
While this is Baerbock’s first visit to India as President of the UN General Assembly, she has previously engaged with the country in her role as Germany’s foreign minister.
Baerbock is expected to travel to China after concluding her engagements in India. (ANI)
