Chhindwara (Madhya Pradesh) [India], October 7 (ANI): The death toll linked to the Coldrif cough syrup case in Madhya Pradesh has risen to 19 after a fresh casualty was reported on Tuesday afternoon, a senior district official confirmed.

A two-year-old girl from Junnardeo in Chhindwara died while undergoing treatment at Government Medical College (GMC) in Nagpur, where she had been admitted for over a week. This latest death adds to the toll of 16 in Chhindwara, along with two deaths in Betul district and one in Pandhurna district.

Dhirendra Singh, Additional District Magistrate (ADM), said, “So far 16 children have died in the cough syrup case in Chhindwara. One more girl child (2 years old) died this afternoon at around 12:30 pm, resulting in the death toll rising to 16. The girl was admitted at Government Medical College, Nagpur for more than seven days. Currently, five children undergoing treatment at GMC Nagpur remain in critical condition.”

A dedicated team comprising three doctors and three executive magistrates from Chhindwara has been deployed in Nagpur to monitor treatment across hospitals and maintain close coordination with hospital management.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that the state government would cover the full expenses for the children undergoing treatment for kidney infections caused by the cough syrup. He said a joint team of executive magistrates and doctors has been deployed in Nagpur to oversee medical arrangements and continuous monitoring. The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed that authorities are in constant touch with affected families to ensure all necessary arrangements for treatment are in place.
