New Delhi [India], August 31 (ANI): The Election Commission of India (ECI) has received 2,40,891 claims and objections from electors as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2025 of the electoral rolls in Bihar. Of these, 2,07,565 were filed for exclusion, while 33,326 were submitted for inclusion.

According to the ECI’s daily bulletin on Sunday, 38,342 claims and objections have already been disposed of, following the mandated seven-day waiting period. The process of filing claims and objections will conclude on September 1.

The Commission also confirmed that political parties have filed a total of 118 claims and objections, all submitted by the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation. Of these, 103 sought exclusions, while 15 requested inclusions.

A total of 1,60,813 Booth Level Agents (BLAs), appointed by political parties, are authorized to collect Claims (Form 6) and Objections (Form 7) from the public and file them along with the prescribed declaration. The ECI clarified that generic complaints submitted without the required forms or declarations are not counted as valid claims or objections.

The Commission further noted that it has received 15,32,438 Form 6 applications with declarations from new electors who have recently turned 18 or above.

As per the rules, claims and objections must be disposed of by the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) only after the seven-day notice period and proper verification of eligibility. The ECI emphasized that no name can be deleted from the draft roll published on August 1, 2025, without a formal speaking order by the ERO or AERO, following an inquiry and after giving the affected person a fair opportunity to respond.

Additionally, the Commission stated that the list of names excluded from the draft roll, along with reasons, is displayed on the websites of District Election Officers (DEOs), District Magistrates (DMs), and on the Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) portal in a searchable format using the EPIC number. Aggrieved individuals may submit claims along with a copy of their Aadhaar card.

The SIR exercise in Bihar began on June 24. Approximately 65 lakh electors were found to be ineligible and were not included in the draft roll published on August 1. (ANI)
