India-Germany Economic Ties to Enter ‘Limitless’ Phase in Strategic Sectors: PM Modi

PM Narendra Modi

Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], Jan. 12 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India and Germany are set to transform their economic partnership into a “limitless” collaboration, with deeper engagement in strategic sectors, during the India-Germany CEOs Forum.

Highlighting Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s choice of India for his first official trip to Asia, Modi said it underscores India’s central role in Germany’s diversification strategy and reflects high levels of trust between the two nations. “We have decided to make this seamless economic partnership limitless. This means that along with traditional economic sectors, there will now be deeper cooperation in strategic sectors as well. In the defence sector, we are exchanging a Joint Declaration of Intent today,” he stated.

The Prime Minister emphasized India’s sustained growth rate of over 8%, driven by reforms across strategic sectors including defence, space, mining, and nuclear energy. Simplified compliance and improved ease of doing business have strengthened India’s position as a global symbol of growth and optimism. He also noted that the India-EU Free Trade Agreement is expected soon, offering new avenues for trade, investment, and bilateral partnerships.

Modi invited German industries to combine their precision and innovation with India’s scale and speed, assuring stable policies and a long-term vision to support manufacturing and export. “You can manufacture in India, take full advantage of domestic demand, and export without any restrictions. On behalf of the government, I assure you that India will further strengthen its cooperation with Germany through stable policies, mutual trust, and a long-term vision,” he said.

The Prime Minister outlined opportunities in green technologies, including solar cells, electrolysers, batteries, and wind turbines, and emphasized collaboration in emerging technology sectors such as semiconductors, power electronics, biotech, fintech, quantum computing, and cybersecurity.

Celebrating the platinum jubilee of India-Germany relations, Modi noted that bilateral trade has surpassed $50 billion, driven by cooperation between Indian MSMEs and Germany’s Mittelstand, as well as joint ventures in automotive, chemical, and energy sectors.

“This partnership is mutually beneficial and contributes to global stability. By combining India’s vision with Germany’s technological expertise, we can develop solutions in e-mobility, food and health security, and a human-centric digital future,” Modi said.
