NEW DELHI, June 23 (ANI) — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met National Security Advisers and senior security officials from BRICS nations, calling for deeper cooperation to address emerging global security challenges.
The meeting followed the 16th BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting in New Delhi, chaired by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. Discussions were held against the backdrop of rising geopolitical uncertainty, with a focus on terrorism, cybersecurity, and risks posed by emerging technologies.
Prime Minister Modi said BRICS has become an important platform for strengthening security cooperation in an increasingly complex global environment.
In a post on X, he reiterated India’s commitment to its BRICS chairmanship agenda focused on “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
“Pleased to meet National Security Advisors and senior security officials of BRICS countries. In a changing global landscape, BRICS has a vital role in deepening security cooperation and addressing shared challenges, from terrorism and cyber security to emerging technologies,” Modi said.
He added that India’s chairmanship would seek to promote practical cooperation, support Global South priorities, and contribute to a safer and more inclusive world.
India hosted the 16th BRICS NSA meeting in New Delhi, with participation from senior security officials of member and partner countries, including Brazil, China, Russia, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
National Security Adviser Ajit Doval described BRICS as a “very special coalition” and highlighted its growing role in global security affairs.
He also held bilateral meetings with several representatives on the sidelines of the summit.
India is set to assume the BRICS chairmanship in 2026 for the fourth time, having previously held it in 2012, 2016, and 2021.
The grouping continues to expand its focus beyond economic cooperation to include political and security issues, counter-terrorism, climate change, energy security, and global governance reforms.
