Israel Agrees to Finalize 60-Day Ceasefire in Gaza, Says Trump

US President Donald Trump

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 2 (ANI): U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced that Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, urging Hamas to accept the deal or face harsher consequences.

In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump revealed that his representatives held a “long and productive” meeting with Israeli officials, resulting in Israel’s agreement to the proposed terms. He confirmed that negotiations to end the war would continue during the ceasefire period.

“Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War,” Trump wrote. He added, “The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring Peace, will deliver this final proposal. I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”

Trump praised Qatar and Egypt for their diplomatic efforts and warned Hamas against rejecting the agreement, calling the current proposal the best path forward.

The announcement comes just days ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s planned visit to the United States on July 7, further elevating the importance of ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Despite the proposed ceasefire, Israeli military operations have continued in Gaza. According to Al Jazeera, Israeli warplanes carried out at least 50 airstrikes on Monday, with heavy bombardment reported in eastern Gaza City following forced evacuation orders issued by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Citing medical sources, the outlet reported that Israeli strikes killed at least 68 Palestinians on Sunday alone, including 47 in Gaza City and the surrounding northern areas.

The Gaza Health Ministry reports that the war has now claimed at least 56,500 lives and left 133,419 others wounded since hostilities began. In contrast, Israel suffered approximately 1,139 fatalities during the October 7 Hamas-led attacks, during which over 200 people were taken hostage.

Trump’s announcement marks a potential turning point in the months-long conflict, though the success of the ceasefire ultimately hinges on Hamas’ response and continued diplomatic coordination with regional mediators. (ANI)
